At an event in Japan, Capcom confirmed that there are currently plans for further remakes of Resident Evil.
After the remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 and most recently the fan favorite Resident Evil 4 were very well received, it is only a matter of time before Capcom announces another remake of the popular horror series. This hasn’t officially happened yet, but one of the main people responsible for the Resident Evil 4 remake has now commented on the plans for further remakes of the old games. As part of a “Playstation Partner” event in Japan, he was asked what future remakes of Resident Evil would look like. And his answer could hardly be clearer.
The next Resident Evil remake is already being planned!
The head developer of the Resident Evil 4 remake, Yasuhiro Anpo, was also a guest at a “Playstation Partner Awards” event in Japan. He could be asked questions as part of a panel. And one of them was whether Capcom wanted to make further remakes of other games in the series. Anpo’s short answer: “Yes.”
Shortly afterwards he went into more detail: “So far we have released three remakes [of Resident Evil] and they have all been very well received. I myself am a big fan of the old games, and the remakes will bring it to a new generation allows players to experience it, which makes me very happy.”
However, a concrete announcement couldn’t be elicited from him: “Which game we want to remake in the future is something that we only want to announce in the future, so please stay tuned for it.”
Which part could receive a fresh treatment?
After we have been provided with three remakes of Resident Evil since 2019 and even a remake DLC with “Seperate Ways”, according to the chief developer, the question naturally arises: which part of the time-honored survival horror series is next your turn?
There are quite a few candidates, especially the logical successor to the Resident Evil 4 remake, (buy now $46.86 / $53.99) namely Resident Evil 5. But also Resident Evil: Code Veronica, which was originally for the Sega Dreamcast, which was released in 2000, could be an option. And of course there are Resident Evil 0 and 1, both of which are already available in a remastered version, but have not yet received a complete makeover for modern hardware.
Just a few months ago, Capcom asked us as fans of the series which remake we wanted next. So the question again at this point: Which part of the survival horror series absolutely needs a new edition and which one could save the effort? And would you think it would be better if Capcom focused more on the main parts of Resident Evil instead of the remakes?
